Jack the Ripper – A Love Story ( Excerpt 6 )
Because I had suddenly developed an aptitude for learning, my tutors pushed me harder to succeed and I thrived under the pressure. I wanted this and I would prove both, to my Father and my tutors that I, of all people deserved it.
At the end of term, when I took my examinations, I passed in every subject and even excelled in some, much to the surprise and delight of my tutors, whom I have to thank for their patience and forbearance with me.
I couldn’t wait to return home and show my Father my results, I had him over a barrel, my results were so good, even excellent, if I do say so myself. There is no way in all honesty that he can refuse me. I will attend Medical School next term.
My Father was so delighted with my progress, that he agreed immediately and set upon enquiring about a position for me. He wanted the best for me, I realise that now on reflection.
The Medical School would not accept me until I was fifteen years old, so I had to return to boarding school for a further term. I actually didn’t mind, because I Knew that I would soon be beginning my training as a physician. I knew that it wouldn’t be easy and that many, fall by the wayside, but I was absolutely determined to succeed.
It was not just a career, I saw it as a calling, away to help my fellow man. I had the dedication, all I needed was the training that would teach me the necessary skills. My brother Giles was going to follow my Father and become a priest, I wished him well, for my own path was ordained too!

Thank you very much, I am trying to prove that behind the beast there was a man with all the human frailties.

Human frailties are what keep us honest, perhaps. We all have them to one degree or another, our set of limitations. Our inherent beauty is in our human frailties, I think, and in our nature to join with one another. Lovely to read.

Thank you so much, like all men I believe that great evil starts with provocation of some kind, It doesn’t just happen without cause!

Yes, it sounds like the road to becoming Jack the Ripper was originally paved with good intentions – at least the way it’s presented in this excellent story of yours.

In the past its been all about the deeds never about the person, I wanted to approach it from a somewhat different angle!
